The Easter season is almost over; it seems to have gone by so fast! You may have noticed in Fr. Theo’s sermons a few mentions about our call to be disciples and our call to be evangelists. Our liturgies during the Easter Season always include readings from the Acts Of The Apostles. Acts is all about the transition of the disciples into apostles. It is about the transition from following and learning from Jesus to becoming the teachers and leaders of the early church. They went out and proclaimed the good news of Jesus.
You may have heard the term “New Evangelization” and wondered what that means. It means that we, the members of God’s church, go out and proclaim the basic Christian message of salvation through Jesus Christ. We become the apostles. That is a pretty lofty goal and an awesome responsibility for us regular folks. It may even be scary to some of us because we are not sure that we are up to the task. So, in future articles I hope to be able to break this task down into meaningful steps we can all take to become apostles in today’s world.
God’s Peace, Dave Toth
