If you have been following my articles over the past months, you know that I feel striving for personal holiness is a great asset in our work of evangelization. But I also feel that it pales in comparison to having a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. We have to keep that intimate relationship fresh and new. A marriage will not last if the partners do not talk to each other, they will grow apart and one day the relationship will die and they won't know why. The same is true of our relationship with Jesus, if we are not talking with him, letting him know where we are in our lives, telling Him our innermost feelings. If we are not asking him what he wants us to do, letting him take control of our lives, we will lose the bond between us and without ever realizing what happened it will be gone. That is why I have emphasized Eucharistic Adoration, Reconciliation, the Rosary as a way to personal holiness. They are all forms of prayer to strengthen our relationship with the Lord. It does not matter how you pray, just that you do pray. In whatever form you are most comfortable with, if one on one conversations with Him are all you know, do it. If ritual prayers are the only way you know to converse with our Lord, do it. Don't let anything get in the way of setting time aside to be with Him, he wants to hear from you. He wants to help you when you need it, listen for Him, He will answer. Sometimes you may hear Him loud and clear, sometimes it will be hard to hear unless you are really listening. He wants to know you and for you to know Him. Don't worry if it has been a while since you have talked with Him, He knows you and loves you and you can go back to Him any time. He loves you so much, He sent His only Son to die on a cross for you.
